Environmental Sustainability

At Bear Creek Mountain Resort, environmental sustainability goes hand-in-hand with luxurious comfort and superb service. We are committed to eco-friendly practices and green products. We believe that this commitment helps maintain a healthier world by reducing our carbon footprint and our environmental impact.


Bear Creek’s Green Initiatives:


Resort Grounds
  • No synthetic pesticides or herbicides are used on the property.
  • The on-site wastewater treatment system uses microbiological methods.  Treated effluent is used for irrigation and ground water recharge.
 
Throughout the Resort
  • Energy-saving lighting, including fluorescent and compact fluorescent fixtures, is used, and motion sensors and computer-controlled systems turn off lights in unoccupied areas.
  • State-of-the-art power and HVAC control systems minimize heating, cooling and electric usage
  • Environmentally friendly cleaning products are used throughout the resort, including hydrogen-peroxide-based products.
  • All paper and plastic dishware is biodegradable.
  • We recycle paper, cardboard, glass, metal and plastic.
  • Scrap paper is reused for office purposes.
  • We are fully compliant with EPA and Pennsylvania DEP requirements for recycling fluorescent bulbs, ballasts, batteries, and biohazard wastes.
 
The Hotel
  • All paper products are made from recycled paper (toilet paper, paper towels, note pads, etc.).
  • In-room toiletries are biodegradable and designed for environmental stability.
  • Trashcan liners in guest rooms are made from recycled plastic.
  • We encourage hotel guests to conserve water by reusing towels and sheets.
  • All used soap, shampoo, conditioner and lotions from the guest room are donated to Clean The World.
 
The Spa
  • Natural product lines are used.
  • We recycle paper, metal and plastic.
  • Scrap paper is reused for office purposes.
  • Heating is kept low in treatment rooms when not in use.
 
Restaurants & Bars
  • Digital reservation policy eliminates the use of paper.
  • Greenware cups are used in all restaurants.
  • Using local beverage vendors minimizes long-distance travel and lowers our carbon footprint.
  • All cardboard, plastic and paper products are recycled.
  • Used fryer grease is recycled.
